Kickstarter Launch Date Finalized!

The last time I wrote a blog post about my crowdfunding campaign, I was convinced I would launch my campaign within 20 days.  According to that timeline, I would have launched my campaign last week.  This whole setting a date thing has been fairly frustrating.  I’ve been tempted to just launch the campaign before it’s completely ready, but after working for about a year on this project, I want to make sure I do things right.  After a lot of push-backs and road-bumps, I am happy to announce that the official launch date is March 1st! One thing that kept pushing back my campaign was setting up the marketing for the campaign.  My first thought was that I could learn...

Kickstarter Email List

I am now about 20 days away from launching my crowdfunding campaign.  The closer I get to launching my campaign, the more nervous and excited I get.  It is nice to have so much information out there on the web to guide me through these last steps.  As I mentioned in my last post, Tim Ferris’s blog post, “Hacking Kickstarter” has some of the best information.  In this post, Ferris emphasizes the importance of building a large email list of friends, family, and influencers.  Luckily for me, I started gathering emails about a year ago, so I have had a lot of time to build my list.   Creating the email list is a bit daunting because of the amount...

Kickstart Launch in T minus 30 - 40 Days

Since I left Freshly Picked last July, I have been dying to launch my crowdfunding campaign.  I am super excited to say that we are about 30 - 40 days away from launching the campaign.    Now it’s finally time for me to start implementing all of the marketing advice I have been reading over the past year.  One of the most concise summaries on running a successful campaign can be found on Tim Ferris’ Blog - “Hacking Kickstarter: How to raise $100,000 in 10 days.”  One of the most powerful ideas this blog post teaches is running a “scorched earth” campaign, or in other words, making sure the word of my backpack reaches every customer it possibly can, as...

Happy New Year!  This episode is our first episode of 2016.  In this episode, I interview Clint Betts.  Clint is the Co-Founder and the CEO of Beehive Startups.  Beehive is an organization that promotes and builds the Utah startup scene.  One of the many things that Beehive does is put on events such as, StartFest and Startup Conversations.  These events allow founders and aspiring entreprenuers a platform where they can learn from and inspire each other.   I attended StartFest last year, and if you have been following my blog, you’ll remember my notes from this event that I posted.  Click here if you’d like to see these notes.  Clint’s created a unique business space, and I think you’ll enjoy...

Interview with David Bradford

Today I published episode 15 of my podcast.  In this episode, I interview David Bradford about his career and networking.  David has helped run companies such as Novell, Fusion iO, and Hirevue.  He is currently running Fluentworlds with his wife.  This episode can be found here.  David Bradford has to be one of the most connected individuals that I have ever met.  I actually came up with a game called the seven degrees of David Bradford.  I like to look up a CEO of a major company on Linkedin and see if David is connected with them.  Around 90% of the time, he is a direct contact of the individual.   David learned the importance of networking when he graduated...
